Tax the rich!

Swedish Social Democratic party today announced their alternative budget for Sweden 2012. Big investments were suggested in infrastructure, education and tax reduction for small businesses to encourage them to expand and hire people. One way to finance these reforms is to make sure that people who earn 600 000 SEK a year will not have as big tax reduction as everyone else. If you earn more than 1000 000 SEK a year you don´t get any tax reduction at all.

While the conservatives (Moderaterna) made sure to get rid of the taxes for the rich people when they won the election in 2006. New trends are showing we need to do the opposite. One of the bearing points with the swedish welfare system has been to pay a little bit more – cause you can afford more. This to make sure we could create and sustain the Swedish model with free education, universal health care, clean environment, streets, housing and all that.

Even my favourite the american billionaire Warren Buffet wrote in the New York times that its time to tax the rich Aswell as economics professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst  Nancy Folbre wrote the same thing earlier this year in the NYT blog even Obama makes sure to follow the trend - and only possible way to secure an income, suggests that its time to tax the rich.

The reputation of Sweden and everything I am proud of are slowly dissolving itself. the Reputation Institute just came out with their report about the Worlds most reputable country. Sweden has been on top of the list for a very long time. This year though – Canada was ranked higher than Sweden.

So Fredrik Reinfeldt (The conservative Swedish Prime minister): you are out of date.
